Zahir
Ten-year-old Zahir and his four siblings lost their parents when they were murdered by ISIS fighters in [removed]. Members of the brutal terrorist group also destroyed the family's home and all of their belongings. Zahir and his siblings were rescued by our teams and taken to one of our “Open Sky” refugee camps until they were matched with a house church family and placed in their care.
At first, due to his traumatic experiences, Zahir was slow to speak. But after months of trauma counseling, he began to open up and share his story. Zahir still meets with a trainer every week. Through his participation in our Bible Kids Club, he’s now a Jesus follower, learning Bible stories and sharing his faith with others.
His daily chores include cleaning his room and picking up outside the family's home. This young future farmer is learning to read, write, and practice good personal hygiene. Zahir, whose name means “shining” or “bright,” is also growing in his faith. Our teams are training him to share his Jesus story with other children, especially Muslims during Ramadan.
